Located approximately 74km from Cloncurry in North West Queensland mining and shipping of copper oxide from SMK's VCP to Copperchem commenced in November 2014. Resource projections from current and historical exploration information provide enough data to mine plan ahead of current extraction activities. New exploration programs will be implemented in the beginning of 2015 to measure the extensions of the known ore bodies and target zone's adjacent to multiple historic old shafts and workings.
The current style of mining on the VCP is slot mining and is ideal for maintaining high grades through minimum dilution. The ore body alters in width, depth and length for example the South Volga pit currently being mined is 300m+(L) x 2m to 6m+(W) x 14 to 16m(D). The grades range from 1% to 11% Cu and a recent bulk sample of our average grade stock piles averaged 2.5% and is expected to range higher once processed through the crusher pre leaching. In addition to this bulk sampling of our highest grade stock pile averaged 6.5%.
The VCP is mined in partnership with Contractor JDR Mining and Civil and Moore Mining Engineers.
